Internship – Yuen Chau Kok Public Library deployment

Role: Network Configuration Intern / Systems Engineer
Core Technologies: Cisco Core Routers, Cisco Catalyst Switches, VLAN Segmentation, Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), Inter-VLAN Routing, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP).
Key Responsibilities & Technical Achievements
- Core Network Architecture & Deployment:
- Designed and provisioned the enterprise-grade local area network (LAN) blueprint integrating Cisco core routing and switching hardware to support multi-zone public spaces (e.g., Adult Library, Computer & Information Centre, Multimedia Library, and automated self-service stations).
- VLAN Segmentation & Traffic Isolation:
- Implemented strict VLAN segmentation to segregate network traffic across distinct functional zones (e.g., Public Internet Access, Staff Operations, Digital/Multimedia Resources, and IoT/Smart Book Drop systems) to optimize broadcast domains and elevate security postures.
- High Availability Routing (HSRP):
- Configured Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP) across redundant Cisco core routers to establish gateway failover redundancy, ensuring zero-downtime continuous network uptime for mission-critical library transaction systems and public services.
- Switching & End-Device Integration:
- Configured trunking (IEEE 802.1Q), access ports, port security, and Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) on Cisco switches to connect hundreds of end-user client devices, multi-function printers, and self-checkout kiosks safely and efficiently.
